Admiral (retd.) Jayanath Colombage has been both foreign secretary of Sri Lanka and commander of the Sri Lankan navy. In this candid and wide-ranging interview with senior research scholar Rami Niranjan Desai, he talks about how the island nation is coping with deep economic crisis, on whether the Chinese control the critical Hambantota Port, and how Sri Lanka balances India and China. He also thanks India for providing critical economic support which has helped keep the Sri Lankan economy afloat.
